Pre-K Classroom (ages 4- 5.5) – Kindergarten Readiness
When your child enters the PreK Room at Colorado Kids Academy, a journey of learning about themselves, others, and the natural world begins. In this community we believe that learning is an experience shared equally between teachers and students. We do not believe children come to school as empty vessels to be filled with our knowledge, but rather we all have something to learn from one another. Each child brings their own unique way of thinking, creating, and learning into our classroom. Honoring this makes us better teachers while shaping happy, confident kids. Our goal is to help children discover a lifelong love of learning by empowering them to take ownership of what learning looks and feels like on an individual level. We achieve this goal by allowing children to follow their own organic flow of interest in a classroom filled with intentional, open ended materials that introduce early concepts of art, math, science, literacy, geography, and social studies, and nature. Although we understand that academics are important, our main focus during this time is to cultivate healthy social emotional skills and creative thinking skills in your children. Did you know that a child develops the majority of the core personality traits they will carry with them for the rest of their lives by the time they are 5 years old? Children walking into Kindergarten have close to the same self image as that of a fully developed adult. That being said, we understand how crucial this time is and we believe teaching your children to be wonderfully kind, empathetic, creative citizens of the world takes precedence. We do this through showing and leading by example in everyday teachable moments which foster children’s abilities to give and receive love and respect to themselves and others, recognize and cope with the emotions in themselves and others, and how to set healthy boundaries. We teach children to fill their own cup so they may fill the cup of others. Our motto is be safe and be kind. We believe at this age knowing how to make a friend or help someone who is struggling is more important than writing a sentence (but don’t worry, we work on that too!)
